Penal colony: a colony of criminals that didn't do capital offenses but were sent away, ofetn for many years. Austraulia was the biggest of these. absentee landlord: A noble in ireland that owned land, but did not activly live in ireland. They ofetn evicted tennents at will, leaving them homeless. Home rule: A form of government where the people govern their own country. Ireland wanted this to be free of british rule. Free trade: A form of business where there are no tariffs. Trade could flow freely from country to country without problems.
